Hello, I am José Manuel Ortiz de Orue Huamán, a mountain biker and local guide born in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. I am the founder of Ortiz Adventure and current director of the renowned international race Inka Avalanche.
My mother is an indigenous Quechua, a descendant of the Huamán family (“hawk” in Quechua), and my father is a Creole from Mareño. From a young age, I grew up surrounded by culture, history, and mountains, with a deep love for our Andean customs and roots.

I started hiking at the age of 8, exploring the ancient trails of our ancestors with friends from the community. At age 13, I discovered my great passion: mountain biking, which has been with me ever since. This love for cycling led me to compete in the legendary Mega Avalanche (2005–2009) and later to lead one of the most important downhill events in South America.
Between 2012 and 2018, I collaborated with my great friend Will Janecek (KB), who organized the Inka Avalanche. In 2019, when he decided to retire, I gathered a local team of cyclists and officially took over the management of the event under our organization: OX. Today, I continue to proudly lead this great challenge that unites sport, culture, and nature in the Andes.
My travels have also broadened my view of tourism. I visited places such as Colorado, Utah, Las Vegas, and Minneapolis in the US, learning about their tourism models. In Colombia, I traveled through the sacred Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a place I recommend to those seeking a connection with ancestral cultures.
Thanks to my years of experience in hospitality and guiding tourists, I have had the privilege of meeting people from all over the world. Everyone is fascinated by our culture and its warmth. That is why I am committed to continuing to promote responsible and authentic tourism in Peru, from the Andes to the Amazon.
At Ortiz Adventure, we have designed routes and experiences that connect you with the best of our land. It will be an honor to guide you along these paths full of history, adventure, and spirit.
