🗓️ Day 1: Ollantaytambo – Lake Yanaccocha – Lares
We depart from our Ollantaytambo office at 9:00 AM and head to the Patacancha Basin, known for its Inca terraces, highland lagoons, and traditional Andean communities. Along the way, you’ll witness vibrant local life, preserved customs, and colorful textiles.
Choose your adventure:
- Bike Option: Ride 25 km downhill to the Lares hot springs.
- Trek Option: Hike scenic trails used by local herders toward the hot springs.
After arriving, soak in the medicinal hot springs and relax. Spend the night in a comfortable local accommodation near the thermal baths, and enjoy dinner with a view of the highland night sky.
🗓️ Day 2: Lares – Abra de Lares – Calca
Start your morning with an optional dip in the hot springs. Then we travel by van to the Abra de Lares, passing small highland communities dedicated to alpaca herding and potato farming.
From here, begin a stunning descent toward the Sacred Valley:
- Bike Option: 30 km downhill ride to Calca through winding mountain roads.
- Trek Option: Hike part of an ancient Inca trail connecting Abra Lares to Calca.
🚐 Return to Ollantaytambo or Cusco
After reaching Calca, we coordinate your return either to Ollantaytambo or Cusco, based on your travel plans. This route gives you authentic insight into Andean mountain life and local traditions, far from the typical tourist circuits.
