Day 1: Ollantaytambo – Patacancha – Mountain Camp
We depart from our office in Ollantaytambo (or your hotel upon prior coordination) and drive to Patacancha Valley, where our adventure begins. The trail combines ascent and descent, and we hike for about 7 hours to the first camp.
Along the way, we pass remote Quechua homes, see llamas and alpacas, and learn about families who grow some of the best native potatoes. We camp near Halancoma Mountain, in a quiet area surrounded by nature.
Day 2: Halancoma – Queuñas Forest – Pumamarca Camp
We wake up above 3800 m (12,460 ft) and enjoy a warm drink and breakfast. Our hike takes us through a unique Queuñas forest, home to ancient native trees and mountain springs flowing from the snowy Halancoma. These waters feed the Ollantaytambo valley.
Our trail leads us to the Pumamarca fortress, a hidden gem with strategic Inca significance. We set up camp here for the night.
Day 3: Pumamarca – Ollantaytambo
After breakfast, we explore the Pumamarca ruins and walk among agricultural terraces that still support crops like potatoes and corn. We follow an original Inca trail down to Ollantaytambo, where the trek ends. We’ll assist you in connecting to your hotel or next destination.
