One of the best options to know Machu Picchu is to go through the high jungle (Santa Maria and Santa Teresa) enjoying the flora and fauna that can be seen on the route. If you like adventure and adrenaline this is for you! The route from beginning to end is a spectacle for its change in the bioclimatic floors, the fauna on the way to Vilcabamba, the place of the last Inca resistance led by Manco Inca. In this package we offer different types of adventure in a single trip such as: biking, hiking and bathing in the hot springs of C’cocalmayo.

Day 1: Ollantaytambo – Abra Málaga – Huamanmarca – Huancancalle – Vilcabamba

  • Ascent from Ollantaytambo to Abra Malaga and descent by bicycle to Huamanmarca.

Starting an adventure trip with us, we normally leave from our base in Ollantaytambo, but if you are in Cusco or elsewhere we can pick you up without any inconvenience, you just have to specify the exact location and if it involves an additional cost to avoid inconveniences.

The main transport will be waiting loaded with bicycles and safety equipment to begin the ascent to the mountain of Abra Malaga which is 1 hour away from Ollantaytambo. The Abra Malaga is located at 4350 meters above sea level and is the pass to the high jungle of Cusco. Arriving at the Abra Malaga pass we will provide you with all the safety equipment and after a safety talk (which is very important) we will start the descent to Huamanmarca, stopping at strategic points to take pictures, enjoy the views of the valley and rest. This descent is long and fun, full of entertainment from start to finish in a journey of approximately 56 km of downhill biking.

Day 2: Visit to Yurac Rumi and Vitcos – Vilcabamba village

After a good breakfast presented by our OAT team, we will start our hike towards the archaeological remains of Vilcabamba – Huancancalle, the last Inca resistance where Manco Inca managed to resist the invasion for 30 years. Here we will be able to appreciate the architectural quality in stone that the Incas developed and an extraordinary evidence is the ceremonial stone YURAC RUMI. Continuing with our exploration we will walk to VITCOS, where we will be able to appreciate the urbanization of the last Inca resistance that for years could consolidate in this place. Both places will leave you impressed and you will be glad to have made the decision to make this exploration that, for now, is little.

Day 3: Inka Tambo Trek

Undoubtedly this hike is a challenge and to get to know Inka Tambo, an important place in the Inca history is, for an adventurer, a unique experience. This day we will leave very early in our transportation to approach the access from where we will start the hike to Inka Tambo, which is located between the mountains. This hike has an approximate duration of 6 to 7 hours round trip, in a 13 km distance.

This hike has spectacular views, you can enjoy stretches of an Inca trail that leads to Inka Tambo, also known as Inka Wasi or house of the Inka, its perfect infrastructure and location make it look imposing to any visitor.

We recommend it without a doubt, because after a long day pedaling and passing through different altitudes, it is a very good option to enter the hot springs and relax the body, then we will return to the Lodge where an exquisite dinner prepared with products of the area and the experienced chef, so we can go to rest well to recover energy for the next day.
