Trekking: The Inka quarries and Inti Punku (Sungate)

Hiking for people who like to get out of the routine and want a challenge walking in the mountains. This route has the best views of the snow-capped mountain of Veronica (Wakay wilka).

  • Ollantaytambo – Cachiccata Stone Quarries, 5 km

Hike with an important complement to understand the Inca architectural history and its raw material, the stone. On the way we can find the quarries where the stones were extracted and worked for the foundations of the Inca city of Ollantaytambo, the evidence remains and can be seen at every step we take.

  • Cachiccata Stone Quarries – Inti Punku (sungate), 3 Km

The hike continues towards the Inti Punku or sun gate, a place located at a strategic point overlooking the basins and a symbol of reference of the Inca astronomical observatory.  It is a marvel for those who arrive.

In this place we will take the time to enjoy, share our Box Lunch, take pictures and thank you.

  • Inti Punku – Cachiccata 4 km

Being satisfied with our time and rest in Inti Punku we start the descent by an alternate road that leads us directly to the community of Cachiccata, on this road we will find small houses on stones, which does not have complete information about its function, as well as agricultural terraces that are not lacking on the way.

  • Cachiccata – Pueblo de Ollantaytambo, 2 km

The last part of the hike is from Cachiccata to the village of Ollantaytambo, which is 2 km away on a lighter and flatter path.

Here we have the option of having a shuttle waiting for us at an extra cost of $10 per person.
